Monday October 7

We spent the day in the St. George Utah area and visited Snow Canyon State Park, about 15 minutes outside of town. It is a beautiful canyon of red and white layered sandstone with mounds of black lava. It has vast areas of undulating slickrock.

We started off with a four mile hike using a combination of three trails. This provided a combination of soft red sand trails interspersed with red slickrock requiring scrambling and climbing for some great views of the canyon.

There had been some rain recently so there were lots of wildflowers and greenery.

After stopping for lunch, we drove to another trail head to do a three mile hike to a white slickrock "amphitheatre". Most of the trail there was up and down on paths with some of the softest sand you would ever find at a beach. Made it feel like a ten mile hike. The "amphitheatre" was really interesting.

Temperatures were in the mid 80's but it got cloudy in the afternoon which made the day tolerable.

We retreated to the hotel around 4:30 pm for a shower and some relaxation before heading out to the Olive Garden for supper. Still working on planning tomorrow's adventure given that Bryce Canyon is closed.
