Thursday October 10

We awoke in Panguitch to find that we had received a bit of snow overnight.

We checked the weather and noted there was a winter weather warning for elevations above 7500 ft with up to 10 inches of snowfall possible. Our original plan was to travel to Moab UT via a scenic byway that would take us past Capitol Reef National Park. There were several high altitude passes so we decided to err on the side of safety and travel via the Interstate I70.

We had a quick stop at Piute State Park to enjoy the view.

There was alternating blue sky and rain most of the way to Moab.

We did manage to skirt and out run this nasty looking storm as we made our way east.

We arrived in Moab at about 2:00 PM. We had a great lunch at Pantele's Deli, recommended in our Lonely Planet Guide.

After checking into our motel, we went for a walk about downtown. Lots of interesting galleries, boutiques and other shops.

The Plein Air Art Festival was in full swing with competing artists on every street corner in the town.

As I am writing this, I am hearing on the news that the Governor of Utah has a deal with Washington to re-open the National Parks in the state by the end of the day tomorrow. Great, just three days too late for us.

Off to supper at the Twisted Sistas' Cafe....
