Friday September 20

Today's destination was a return to Jim & Sharon's place in Sonoma. We got underway at a reasonable time as we had over 300 miles to travel from Crescent City. This time, it was not the rooster that woke us early but some nearby sea lions that started barking early in the morning. There was also a fog signal that was sounding every ten seconds throughout the night.

A view of Crescent City as we were leaving.

Just outside of Crescent City we entered the Redwood National Park. We did not have time to stop and explore the trails but we did see some really large trees lining the roadway.

There were a number of good viewpoints of the coast before Hwy 101 turned inland.

We decided to take a break when we drove through Eureka. We followed the signs to the "Old Town" and were surprised by several blocks of restored buildings housing a variety of shops and restaurants. The architectural detailing of the buildings was outstanding.

Eureka seems to be a congregating place for a lot of burned out hippies and older homeless people. Chris got some information from one of the locals that the Russians are going to be taking over Humboldt County in October and there will be a lot fewer people there because they will be getting rid of the gays. Hmmmm.

We continued on to Sonoma and arrived at 4:30 pm.

We were doubled up on the guest accommodation at the Jackson B&B with Arlene and Lloyd from Kitchener visiting for a few days. It was great to see them again.

We went to Sebastiani Winery in downtown Sonoma for their Friday night event. Finger food, wine and a band. After the winery event we returned home. Lloyd had bought a bottle of brandy we shouldn't have opened. Sounded like a good idea at the time.
