We
had a good night's sleep at the Prospect Hotel. A good old Inn but
the internet speed was non-existent so no chance to update the blog.
We
had the breakfast at the Inn and then made our way back to Crater
Lake National Park and took the east rim road to the trail head for
the climb to the summit of Mt. Scott, the highest peak in the park at 8929 ft.
Temperatures were great for the climb (mid 60's) with a fairly strong
wind blowing to keep you cool.
The
trail was fairly steep with a vertical gain of 1250 ft in 2 ½ miles.
It took us about 75 minutes to reach the summit.
The
viewpoint allowed you to capture the whole lake in your camera
viewfinder.
Some
more photos from the summit....
The
descent only took 45 minutes and we went to a nearby picnic area for
lunch.
We
then completed the circle tour of the lake via the road stopping at
several of the overlooks for a different perspective of some of the
unique geological features we had seen the day before on our boat
trip.
We
were held up while the park rangers cleared a tour bus wreck. Looks
like the tour group experienced a little bit more of Oregon than they signed
up for.
Good news, no injuries, just a lot of inconvenience.
We
also did another short hike on the Sun Notch Trail to get a view of
the “Phantom Ship” formation.
We
left the park at around 4:45 and made our way back to the Prospect
Inn. We decided to refuel the car and went to the only gas station
within 60 miles at the Prospect General Store. Interesting place,
think we were the only ones without tattoos, camouflage clothing,
suspenders but with our own teeth.
We
had a nice light dinner at the Inn and retired to our room to
struggle with the internet to no avail.
